The connection between our health and the food we eat has come to the fore in recent years. It is now widely accepted that good health begins with including as much wholesome fresh produce as possible in our daily diet. Gardening can also be a great stress buster and can help people in many ways especially during difficult periods of their lives. Additionally working with people on a project like this is a great way to get to make new friends and get to know your neighbours, and growing your own helps the environment too!
In 2009 and 2010 Grow ran a successful community garden project, during which 30 gardeners have grown plenty of beautiful veg, and made new friends to boot. A number of the gardeners have continued to tend the garden throughout the winter, and are now establishing their own plot next to the community garden. The project is now running independently, and to take their place we are recruiting people interested in taking on to care for the vegetable plot, working alongside a group of similarly committed people and a gardening facilitator.
